Senior Citizen Jailed For Fondling
posted (February 21, 2012)
61 year-old Godfrey Mortis, a taxi driver of Amara Avenue, has been sentenced to 2 years in prison for fondling an 8 year-old female child.

According to the child, who testified on camera, on June 5, 2011 at around 9 p.m. she was with mother at the home of the mother's friend. This friend's house is right next door to Mortis' home.

The child said that Mortis asked her to go to the shop and buy for him, and when she came back, Mortis gave her two "love bites" one on both sides of the neck and touched her private parts.

The mother was called by the prosecution, and she testified to the court that she remembered that her daughter went to run an errand at the shop for Mortis. She also said that she discovered the love bites the next morning, and she asked her daughter who did it.

When the child told her that Mortis was the culprit, she immediately went to the police station and made a report, and as a result of that report, Mortis was arrested and charged.

In his defense, Mortis testified to the court and flatly denied that he ever committed the offense that he was accused of.

Late this afternoon, Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith found Mortis guilty of the offense, and he was sentenced to 2 years in prison.
