Jorge Celis Needs To Go To Guat To Save His Eye
posted (February 23, 2012)
Last night we showed you Jorge Celis - the Orange Walk resident whose eye was injured when a policeman fired a shot - and the lead fragment penetrated his eye.

Well, he still can't see out of that eye - and today he told us that he now has to go to Guatemala to see if his vision can be restored.

Today he told us that he was discharged from the KHMH still unable to see anything out of his injured eye and tomorrow he has to go to Guatemala City to see if they can mend the eye.

Doctors here have told him that the procedure is complicated and may require them to insert a thin layer of silicone in the eye.

He told us he does stand the risk of a permanent loss of vision in that eye.

The policeman accused of shooting him in a bar brawl, Sergeant Roberto Novelo has been released pending the outcome of an investigation.

So far, the police have found that Celis and two other men pounced on the Sergeant, while Celis says the Sergeant asked his group to buy a beer for him and when they refused he sprayed them with pepper spray.

One thing led to another which is when the Sergeant fired three shots against the wall - and the fragments from one ricocheted off the wall into Celis's eye.
