VIP's Manifesto, Substance Not Hype
posted (February 23, 2012)
In the past week, you've seen the mass parties launch their national and municipal manifestos with much fanfare.

Well today, the VIP Belize City slate had it's turn at the Radisson - and while the party is fledgling and has only seven people on its slate - at least it did better than the PUP - which couldn't even manage a launch in an air conditioned room.

Their candidates were plain spoke and to the point - here's what they said:

Paco Smith - VIP City Mayoral Candidate
"Now, you have before you - what we have deemed - our commitment sheet. And I want to be very clear that this commitment sheet is not a manifesto. The word 'manifesto' is a 'PUDUP' thing. PUDUP' is what we call the PUDP, and I say very clearly and very distinctly that I believe that this two-party system is what has us in the mess that we are in right now. And that's one of the reasons why I chose to move with the VIP and the Commoner's Movement."

Myrna May Reynolds - VIP Citco Candidate
"I'll get to the point; I am not into this for games or for self-gain. I am here to help my people who can't help themselves."

Felipe Martinez - VIP Citco Candidate
"I know that they have the strength. They are ready to do something different, and that is the reason why I'm here, and I'll put myself in to work for a better Belize."

Paco Smith
"Very simple, very straight-forward, I stress those two words, simple and straight-forward because we as Belizeans have become accustomed to these beautiful manifestos that are brought out by 'PUDUP' - and if a recall very recently - within the past week or so, you've seen the red, and you've seen the blue. And I won't lie to you, they're very attractive aesthetically speaking. It looks good, but when you talk about the substance, that's when you get to the 'meat of the matter'. Ours is a very sober, straight-forward, and very feasible approach toward addressing the needs of the residents of this great city."

The party will be distributing its manifesto house to house...
