Grandmother Knocked Down And Killed in Biscayne
posted (February 27, 2012)
On Saturday evening, a grandmother was knocked down and killed in Biscayne Village at mile 21 on the Northern Highway.

It happened around 6:45 as 67 year old Constance Andrewin was riding from Church to her home, which is nearby.

And almost directly in front of her home, 45 year old David Zetina, was driving a pick-up truck towards Belize City and was blinded by the high beam of an oncoming vehicle. By the time he saw Andrewin, he was upon her, and could not stop; he hit her as he applied brakes.

Yesterday her daughter, Jerrilyn Flowers told us that her mother always rides on the shoulder of the road, off the pavement:..

Jerrilyn Flowers - Daughter of Deceased
"After church on Saturday, she went and she did some bible studies, and she was heading back home. As she was about to reach home, she got hit by this vehicle, from the back. She died on the spot, broken up. After the autopsy, we'll have to try to reconstruct her face. She's totally dismantled. She lives right beside the church, so she doesn't have to go far to go to church. It's an area that she uses on a daily basis."

"On bicycle?"

Jerrilyn Flowers
"Yes, on bicycle, she never - anybody can tell you in Biscayne - she never walks on the shoulder of the road. She always walks or rides in the grassy area. She was in the grass area, on the edge of then roadside. As a Christian family, we can't do anything about it. Everything has to be left to God, and I don't feel any anger about it. We just want to get the whole situation taken care of, and to let our mother rest."

Police report that a urine sample has been taken from Zetina and he has been served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution.
