March is celebrated as Women's Month and the Institute of Creative Arts will be celebrating with a month long - Women in Arts - Exhibit.

The exhibition features over 30 female artists from across the country and is themed "Ixchl, Goddess, Eternal... Woman in Art". The exhibition opens tomorrow at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts and today 7news got a quick preview.

Kim Vasquez - Program Officer, ICA
"We've been doing this for several years now, so it's become an annual event for us at ICA. And this year we've gotten a little larger. Actually, we are pleased to say we have over 30 women participating this year, and we have 3 mother and daughter pairs as well. We also have the Mayan culture represented heavily, because what we're trying to do here at ICA is to tie a lot of our events in with the celebrations of the Maya 2012 calendar. So, this year we took as the icon or the theme for women in arts as the goddess Ixchl. So the theme this year is Ixchl goddess eternal woman in art, because she herself is a woman in art. She's the goddess of healing, fertility, and also weavings. This year, we have all 6 district represented here, and we also try to make sure that we have a mix. We have professional, established artists, you can look forward in seeing people like Carolyn Carr here, Ingrid Cayetano, but every year we have new and upcoming artist, we have a young lady Stacy Rodriguez that does some pencil sketches and stuff like that. So, we have quit a mix this year. We really want to encourage the public to come out, it opens tomorrow at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited, we have an exciting opening lined up; I don't want to give it away but we have a surprise guest, and we have a special performance by the Belize Dance company. They've been working real hard and they will be portraying the goddess Ixchl 3 stages of her life, which we are relating back to female artists. They'll be depicting that in dance."

The Exhibit opens tomorrow night at 7 at the Bliss Centre for the performing arts. It will remain of display up until March 30th.
