Francis Fonseca, Youngest Post-Indep. Parliamentary Leader Of The Opp
posted (March 20, 2012)
They may not have formally conceded defeat - but the PUP has accepted that it is the Opposition. We know this because this afternoon at Belize House in Belmopan, Francis Fonseca was sworn in as Leader of the Opposition by Governor General Sir Colville Young.

At 46, Fonseca becomes the youngest Parliamentary Leader of the Opposition on record - and also does so after just five months as the Leader of the PUP.

He has won his seat in the Freetown division three times in succession.

A release from the PUP says that Fonseca has appointed three Senators, namely Lisa Shoman, Karen Bodden and Collet Montejo. All senators will be sworn in tomorrow morning at the inaugural sitting of the senate at 9:00 am in the National Assembly Building, while members of the House will be sworn in at the ceremonial opening of the House of Representatives tomorrow - which will take place on the National Assembly Stairs.
