A disgraced former Belize Defense Force soldier who was convicted of molesting
an 11-year-old girl will spend three years in jail for his crime. He is 62-year-old
Emilio Blanco and he was convicted of aggravated assault and harm for fondling
the girl who is 11 years and 8 months. The girl testified before a closed courtroom
and told presiding Magistrate Sharon Frazer that on July 12th of 2003 she went
to Blanco's house where he fondled her. Blanco testified in his defense and
said he knew the girl but denied fondling her.
Magistrate Frazer sentenced Blanco to three years for aggarvated assault and
one year for the harm. The sentences are to run concurrently so Blanco will
spend three years in jail. For clarity we note that while Blanco is a former
soldier, he was working as a handyman at the time of the alleged incident.
