Hand in Hand Ministries is having a fundraiser this weekend, but it's not the usual pageant. Ms. Plus Belize showcases the talents and skills of 5 plus sized contestants as they dance, sing and act under the theme: Elegance, eloquence and excellence. It is an interesting concept, and we stopped by the rehearsal today where we found out how the idea came about and what the audience can expect.
Robin Schaffer
"Who came up with the idea of a Plus Size pageant?"
Magnolia Vargas, Hand in Hand Ministries
"Actually its Ms. Lauren, she came up with that Plus Size idea. Everybody bought into it and it sounded like a lot of fun and actually now that we are almost at the day of the pageant it all looks great and it's going to be a very good event."
"Plus size women out there are sometimes pressured by society and we need to show them that being or having a plus size doesn't have anything to do with being beautiful and being elegant and also being eloquent. That's out theme for our pageant."
Anna Nicholson, Pageant Contestant
"It's an experience of being exposed to like my sexiness, my all kinds of stuff you know. It's like an experience to show people who I am and not body size. Ladies, it's not the size of a woman that justify who they are, it's what you have in you. Get to know a person before you judge them."
Sherlette Gamboa, Pageant Contestant
"It's overwhelming and at the same time heartwarming because it's a fund raising event for kids. I have a very passionate heart for children of any age. That's the reason why I am doing it and I am happy about it."
Tickets cost $20, and the pageant begins at 8 on Saturday night.
