Man Chopped, Left For Dead, Survives In Ditch After 20 Hours
posted (July 9, 2012)
A man is in critical condition at the KHMH tonight after he was viciously chopped up on Thursday night and left in a ditch to die. It happened in Benque Viejo on Thursday night. 40 year old Abner Segura a San Ignacio Resident and employee of Blancaneux resort had gone into Benque to have a few drinks with friends.

They went their own way - and it is believed that sometime between 9:00 and 10:00 Segura was walking home when he was attacked. He was robbed on his cell phone, wallet, wedding ring and other jewelry - and he was also chopped across his hands and in his head. Then, he was thrown in a remote ditch near the Benque border. When he didn't get home that night - the family started searching for him in Cayo. But it wouldn't be until Friday afternoon at around five pm that a young girl happened upon him in the ditch. 20 rainy hours after being assaulted, he was still alive, but just barely; he had been bleeding all night and was in a very bad way. According to the family - his blood count was close to zero.

He underwent surgery for the injury to the head which cracked his skull - and is in the intensive care unit. He is on a respirator and his prognosis is guarded.
