Like many other murders we've seen recently - it is an execution, a deliberate act carried out with ruthless, murderous precision. And this one is also unexplained. 7news was on the scene, and here's the story:..

An onlooker just held her head in stunned disbelief last night as 33 year old Felix "Munchy" Godoy lay dead on the stairs in front of her.

He was sitting there relaxing right next to the door for his apartment when - police say - a gunman came up from behind and opened fire.

"Initial investigation revealed that about 7pm Godoy was sitting on his stairs when he was approach from behind by a lone gunman who fired several shots at him fatally injuring him."

"I understand that he just came from the ball court playing ball and that was it."

"He was sitting on the steps by himself?"

"Yes, getting ready to smoke a weed, cooling up to go inside with his family. I got a phone call from my co-worker stating that my brother got shot. I wasn't really panicking because I didn't think he was dead, but when I reach there I saw him brutally murdered."

It happened in this yard at the corner of Boots Crescent and Doris Brooks Street - where Godoy lived in an apartment downstairs. After police drove his body out of the yard - in the presence of maybe two dozen onlookers

We saw seven markers on the scene, and at least six of them hit Godoy directly. His brother says he was chanced out of his life:

"Those who knew him know that he is not a man who gives any trouble. Why would somebody executed him on the stairs like that?"

"Good question, me myself wants to know. Only the almighty could answer all of this."

Leading police figures with a knowledge of the street were on the scene and they moved quickly to detain a suspect

"Looking at the execution style and we believe we have the main suspect detained. We hope that at the end of the day we can bring some form of closure to the family and to the public. To outright say that it might have been a gang rivalry would be unfair at this time because we have not yet established the motive for that execution type murder."

The suspect is from a gang-affiliated neighborhood - but that is no consolation to this family which has lost a brother and a father of two:

"I just left all of this to the almighty because I didn't bring anybody here so I can't take anybody life and I am not into those type of things. Life goes on, I have to live for my family and that's it."

The suspect who has been detained is well known to police.
