Cops Have Suspects, Looking For Others
posted (April 3, 2013)
Police have detained 2 suspects for PC Ramirez's murder and are looking for 2 other men. 3 of the 4 suspects are confirmed to be residents of Roaring Creek Village.

Police believe 2 murder weapons were used in the assassination of their officer - so far no weapon has been recovered. Assistant Superintendent of Police and officer commanding Belmopan Police Station, Sinquest Martinez - is the lead investigator in last night's homicide of one of his officers. In a briefing this morning with the media, he spoke about the latest in the investigation.

ASP Sinquest Martinez - OC, Belmopan Police
"The investigation is going pretty well at this moment; we're getting assistance from the public and we're on top of it."

Reporter
"Do you have any one detained?"

ASP Sinquest Martinez
"We have our suspects"

Reporter
"Suspects, can you give us what the relation the suspects are to the victim?"

ASP Sinquest Martinez
"There is no kind of relationship."

Reporter
"So they had no problems before, they didn't?"

ASP Sinquest Martinez
"No."

Reporter
"They didn't know each other?"

ASP Sinquest Martinez
"Well the suspects are criminals and my officer is a police officer, so there no kind of link in between those two. They don't have any problem; well no problem was reported between the suspects and my officer."

Reporter
"Have you established the motive?"

ASP Sinquest Martinez
"Yes."

Reporter
"And that is?"

ASP Sinquest Martinez
"Not going to say at this present moment. After 11, he was visiting a friend."

Reporter
"A female friend."

ASP Sinquest Martinez
"A female friend, and he was in his car and these group of guys fired first, and they were- he talked to his suspects - to the suspects, certain things were uttered and after that they continued fired wildly."

Reporter
"Those certain things that were uttered, were they threats?"

ASP Sinquest Martinez
"They weren't threats, but they did - there was a conversation between."

Reporter
"Confrontation or?"

ASP Sinquest Martinez
"Conversation."

Monica Bodden
"At any point, did he exit the vehicle?"

ASP Sinquest Martinez
"No."

Reporter
"So he never knew his attackers?"

ASP Sinquest Martinez
"He knew them because he has been working there for quite a while, and our suspects are no strangers to us."

Reporter
"Have you found a murder weapon?"

ASP Sinquest Martinez
"We haven't found a weapon, we - at the scene, we have retrieved several expanded shells about a dozen expended shells. We found some live rounds. We found a magazine at the scene. P.C. Ramirez is a police constable; he has been working in Belmopan for at least 6 to 7 years. He has been working within this area, so he knows the area. He knows his attackers because he spoke to them. The beauty here, we're not like Belize City. We have the people working along with us; that's the beauty here. It's much easier to solve a murder out district than within Belize City, because the love in the villages is still there. What transpired with my officer was an idiot move - idiot move, nonsense, that's what transpired with my officer."

PC Ramirez was a special constable and had been working in Belmopan for the last 6 years.
