Lady Bar Owners In Court
posted (April 25, 2013)
Viewers may remember Yolanda Garcia. She became the second woman to be convicted of human trafficking. Well today, she was back before the Magistrate's Court for employing illegal immigrant workers.

According to the Immigration Department, they visited Garcia's establishment, Red Angels Bar – formerly known as La Serenta Bar – on Regent Street West, when they discovered a waitress, Condi Gomez, who could not produce a valid working permit. Gomez identified Garcia as her boss, so as a result, Garcia was charged with employing persons not in possession of a working permit.

She was arraigned this afternoon, where she pleaded guilty to the charge. Because this is her first offence for this particular charge, Magistrate Dale Cayetano sentenced her to pay a fine of $1,000 by August 31, 2013, or 6 months in default. Today's conviction came only 2 months after her release from prison.

37 year-old Vilma Rutilia Chip, the owner of Chica's Picante Lounge, located on Mosul Street, was also arraigned before Magistrate Cayetano for 2 counts of employing persons not in possession of valid working permit.

According to the Immigration Department, they visited her establishment when they discovered Irma Isabel Arita, and Sayapa Barahona, who were working there. They couldn't produce their working permit, and they identified Chip as their employer.

She pleaded guilty to the charges, but because she had previous convictions for the same offence, Magistrate Cayetano sentenced her to pay fines to a total of $8,000. She must pay them by August 31, 2013, or she will spend 2 years in prison.
