Concert for The Youths
posted (June 14, 2013)
Tomorrow, the Institute of Creative Arts is organizing a concert for the youths as part of the schedule for this year's Festival of the Arts. It is part of ICA's effort to use the arts as an avenue of outreach to Belizean youths and they've put together a line-up of big name Belizean artists. The Creative Arts Development Officer explained more about the show:

Joseph 'Stamp' Romero - Creative Arts Development Officer ICA
"As we move to finish the Fesitval of Arts calendar we have a huge concert planned for the youths, it's one of those concerts where we allow the arist to give back to their community. A lot of our recent artists are just proud to be a part of this event, this is another event where they can say they are a part of something huge, something that helps develop the young people artistically. So people can come out and see Nello Player, Jackie Castillo, Jenko, Ernestine Carballo, Denise Castillo, Belize Generation Dance Company, TR Shine just to name a few so we have a really great line up of artist who just basically said yes to the idea to doing a concert just for the young people."

Daniel Ortiz
"Ok so tell us what exactly are you guys hoping to accomplish?"

Joseph 'Stamp' Romero
"Well we have one featured act, Marlen Vancin, from E.P York he's one of the young artist that I've seen that shows a great deal of promise and so tomorrow she's featured with these bigger acts. We actually want to see how the people will respond to their own and to our bigger artist. One of the main thing we want to send is the 'no bad vibe' idea, one of the things we want to say is that you can use art to target or to decrease any type of negative activity that happens around the country and we would want to send that statement tomorrow. It's a really clean concert they are out to have a really great time and we're there to send a positive message. It's going to be in the bliss parking lot here behind the bliss. It's 3-5pm so you can come out here and have a good time for two hours. It's a really good concert and it's free and it's completely secured. We have police officers coming out to ensure that there is security so parents who are going to be elsewhere, I understand there are other things happening tomorrow, so they can drop their teenagers and have us here at ICA provide a great concert for them."

As noted in the interview, the concert is free.
