He had a single stab wound to the chest, and according to police, when they arrived, he was already dead:

"On Monday June 24th, 2013 sometime just after 4:00am, police visited the newsite area of Sandhill village where on the backstreet they observed the apparent lifeless body of a male person. This person was later identified as Ryan Cox, a 26 year old resident of the said new site, Sandhill area. The body was examined where it was observed that it had a single stab wound at the center of it's chest. The body was taken to the KHMH where it was pronounced dead on arrival."

"This morning around 4:30 I got a call from a friend saying that my nephew was dead and that I should hurry and go there. I got up and ran out there and when I went there I saw him lying down on his face on the ground, bleeding."

"Did you observe any injuries?"

"No, I couldn't see any injuries - I only saw a lot of blood on the ground."

"Our investigations so far reveal that Ryan Cox was socializing Sunday evening in the area of the new site in Sandhill village with some family members and friends, socializing and drinking. Our investigation reveal that Ryan left that residence sometime shortly after 12 midnight and he was heavily intoxicated. The body was discovered early this morning by an area resident."

"Ryan, to me, was very loving and friendly - always talking about how much he loves his kids and was planning for a future for his kids. I don't know what happened behind closed doors - I don't know what happened in the dark."

Inspector Calbert Flowers "We have questioned a number of persons in the area and one person is currently detained for further questioning."

It is important to note that Ryan Cox is the cousin of 37 year Ellis Dawson, the man who was found stabbed to death in the Belize River a month ago. Police continue to investigate that murder, but just as in his case, Ryan Cox's death is proving difficult due to a lack of leads.

Cox was the father of 3 children, and stepfather to 2, the youngest being a 1 year-old.
