Senior Citizen Mercilessly Gunned Down
posted (June 28, 2013)
Tonight, the family of 61 year-old Michael George Bucknor is trying to come to terms with his untimely passing which happened last night at around 8 p.m.

But, he didn't die of natural causes, no, very far from that. This senior citizen was gunned down in an execution-style slaying characteristic of well-known street figures caught up in underground gang warfare.

7News has been covering the story since last night, and Daniel Ortiz has this report:

Daniel Ortiz reporting
Our cameraman arrived shortly after police established the borders of crime scene for the shooting death the 61 year-old Michael George Bucknor, the Manager of Bingo King Apartments.

His assailant had razor sharp precision, a single shot to the head, which caused him to collapse right on the road, the seat of his motor cycle still between his legs. This suggests that he never saw it coming.

The authorities worked quickly to gather their evidence. They were probably knew very well that it was Bucknor's body, but they needed to be absolutely sure.

And so, police escorted a family member to the scene, to have her identify it.

This family member jumped out the police mobile, a look of distress clearly visible on her face, as if still in shock from the terrible news, and she was waiting to confirm what she was told.

She stood over to the side, and waited on police to come and allow her to cross onto their crime scene. She must have seen his body in the distance, and recognized him as her loved-one because shortly after, she broke down in uncontrollable sobs and wails.

2 of the officers then took her to see the body, and when she got a chance to get a good look of it from up close, she once again became inconsolable.

Bucknor's body was then taken away by police, heading toward its final destination for the night, the morgue, punctuating a tragic and untimely passing.

But why did his assailant target this gentleman in such a manner? It seemed very out of place, on paper, being that he was a well-established business owner, and a senior citizen.

That's what we tried to find out today:

Reporter
"Were you alerted to any incident before that may have led to this, if he was threatened or anything like that?"

Patrick Thompson - Nephew of Deceased
"Well actually no, because he and I speak regular and just recently we had a talk about him going to America for a visit and he would have left the place for me to run until he came back. We were supposed to have met today, this evening, to finalize the handing over for the business to me until he returned back and sad to have found out - coming back home when I recieved that call - it was devastating."

Reporter
"Has this been taken you all by surprise?"

Patrick Thompson
"Yes, actually it did because we don't know our uncle to be in trouble with anyone because he have all sorts of tenant. Him and I talk regularly and he has never told me that he has a problem with any of his tenants - nothing like that. He's just a straight up person, he will tell you what he has to tell you and get it over with but nothing of that sort to have been threatened by anyone for this to have happened."

Reporter
"Do you have any idea of what he was doing in that area of Faber's Road when he was shot?"

Patrick Thompson
"Well I believe he was coming to the apartment building to do rent collecting because on arrival at the scene, the police searched his body and found his receipt book so I believe he was coming to the apartment and he just met his death - it's sad."

Reporter
"Do you know if the police has any suspect?"

Patrick Thompson
"Well not really but you know on the streets you hear things but I can't say if that person is a suspect."

Reporter
"Well tell us what you heard."

Patrick Thompson
"Well I understand it is a family member and if that is the matter I will be more devastated than now to see one of my own family member would do something like this but like I said that is what is on the street and I am waiting."

Bucknor was a teacher at Tubal Trade School. He has children and family in the US, who he was planning to visit in the next few days.
