“Vinny” Found Dead In Vista
posted (July 4, 2013)
Two days ago, rumours started circulating in Belize City and Ladyville that 20 year old Alvin "Vinny" Pascascio had been killed. His family held out hope against hope, even when he didn't come home for 48 hours. But all hope was dashed this morning when his mother got the call that she feared the most: it was the police telling her to go out to a crime scene in Vista Del Mar. 7news was there and here's the story.

Jules Vasquez reporting
This morning, Alvin Pascascio's mother, Deseree Flores stooped down in a semi circle of relatives, inconsolable as her son's body was found in the bushes right behind her.

Supt Christopher Noble - O/C Ladyville, Regional Executive Officer
"We found the body of a male person in decomposed state, at present we are looking at what may have caused his death and who may be responsible. Our investigation into this matter has been for a couple of days now so it is only ongoing."

Police had to set up for an on site post mortem due to the advanced state of decomposition.

20 year old Lord's Bank resident Alvin had been missing since Monday night when he was reportedly abducted not too far from his home in Ladyville

Deseree Flores - Mother of deceased
"On Tuesday morning I got a phone call, a gentleman asked me if I had heard what happened to my son Vinny and I asked him what and he told me that he was killed last night in Ladyville and I said 'no, no - that's not true'.

But it was true and two days of desperate searching all but confirmed it :

Deseree Flores
"I know he hangs out sometime around 'pregnant alley' and I asked those guys if they heard anything and they said no, I went to his girlfriend house where they lived by Yabra and they were crying and she said he was dead. I just looked all about, I was at Vista del Mar, by Lord's Bank - I was just looking because Vinny doesn't just disappear, if he isn't at Lord's Bank at my house, he would be at his girlfriend's house in Yabra and we just didn't find him."

Until they found him dead this morning in the bushes off the Vista Del Mar Road - an area where two other bodies have turned up in past years.

Deseree Flores
"This morning the corporal called me and told me that they found a body back here and he told me he didn't think it was my son but to still go. I just asked God if it was him, let me find him - of course I would have wanted to find him alive but sadly I came and it's him. They just threw him there like an animal."

Jules Vasquez
"Is there an indication of how he was killed - was he stabbed or shot?"

Deseree Flores
"There are two holes behind his head and he has some marks around his neck - I don't know if they hung him because his tongue was out and his eyes were out. They also shot him, I don't understand - I believe they tortured him. It's just not a sight any mother would want to see their child in."

An ugly sight but also relief for this mother:

Deseree Flores
"I have a relief inside to know that we found the body because they could have killed him and bury him anywhere and I wouldn't have found him. I had believed that they killed him because he doesn't go missing like that and I just wanted to find him to give my son at least a decent burial. Nobody deserves to die like this and I am torn - that's my child, my son, I would have never wanted to see this happen. It happens and I don't know."

But she does know that her son had been threatened:

Deseree Flores
"He did tell me that somebody wanted to kill him."

Jules Vasquez
"How recently?"

Deseree Flores
"Last week Wednesday - I went to visit him and we had a good talk, as usualy I was always advising him. He said 'ma those boys say that they will kill me' so I told him 'Vinny - pray, don't fear anybody, fear God because he's in control'. People were always threatening to kill Vinny and I am always praying for him and he said that he prayed."

Jules Vasquez
"Did he give any indication why they wanted to kill him?"

Deseree Flores
"Well they always have these enemies out there - I don't know exactly why. These guys are always fighting, sometimes I think they don't even know why they're fighting because you are on this side and I am on that side and so they just follow and don't like the person on that other side and when they see them they want to kill them."

Jules Vasquez
"We know that he was linked to 'Pregnant Alley' - do you believe it's a rival gang that probably targeted him?"

Deseree Flores
"To be honest, I don't know."

More questions than answers and now this mother has to bury her 20 year old son.

Deseree Flores
"He was a loving person at heart - he had a good heart, he was kind and he loved children, he communicated with them well, with his little brother and sister and that side of him - that's the son that I know and I love and I just needed to find him and bury him. Who killed him and why they killed him will have to answer to God. I don't even want to see them, I don't even care what they do - I hope they wouldn't it to anybody else but they will have to answer to God."

The body was buried this afternoon right after the on site post mortem. Ladyville police say the doctor has not given a cause or time of death, but a family member tells us that the death certificate says he died from a gunshot to the head. They note also that he had extensive injuries.

Pascascio had no children, but his girlfriend is expecting a child.

Police say they have persons of interest whom they are seeking for questioning.

Word on the street – which foretold his death two days ago – says that Pascascio may have been killed not by gang rivals, but by allies in the dispute over a gun.
