Belize’s Well-Known Striker Knows The Field Well
posted (July 9, 2013)
But none of the team's members know the synthetic field as best as Deon McCauley. That's because earlier this year, he was in Portland trying out for the Premier League Team Portland Timbers.

Unfortunately, he didn't get drafted, but it has given him experience on what to expect, and today, he told us how that will help his playing.

Deon McCauley - Striker - Belize
"Yes, well of course I was here in March trying out with them and I played on the turf already and it's a nice field, a nice stadium and a nice atmosphere."

Reporter
"Jurgen Klinsmann - the coach of the American team was saying earlier today that you cannot underestimate any team because if you're here it is because you deserve to be here."

Deon McCauley
"Well of course we worked hard to get here and it's not just because it's the first time that we are here it means that we are not meant to be here."

Jules Vasquez
"The team has had a wonderful opportunity to be in camp since April, has that helped and will that help you out on the field tomorrow?"

Deon McCauley
"Well I think that will help us a lot because most of us here know each other very well, we've been playing together for a long time and I think that with that unity that can take us far. I just try to tell everybody just take it like a normal game; it is a normal game to us because the only thing that will be different out there is the atmosphere when it comes to the fans and the media coverage that will be out there and also the other team but it's a normal game; we just have to go out there and do what we know how to do best and hope for the best."

Jules Vasquez
"Belizeans from all over have made an effort to come here, how many of them have you met and how do you feel when you meet this people who've made quite a significant personal sacrifice to be here?"

Deon McCauley
"Well I just met four persons that came all the way from Los Angeles, a seventeen hour drive, just to see our national team and be here to support us. We have a large number of people in the hotel right now interacting with players, family members, people that know us from a long time and if feels good to know that Belizeans have a strong heart and strong will and they give us the best support even though it's 300,000 plus people we have, it's always love when it comes to the Belizean public and we appreciate that a lot."

And we'll have a just little more from Portland as Jules speaks to the fans, and they tell him what they expect on the performance from both sides in the game.
