Learning B-Ball From The Eagles
posted (July 17, 2013)
This morning the Bird's Isle Basketball Court was buzzing as the Ministry of Sports continued their second week of summer camps. The camp we visited caters for 40 children per day focusing mainly on basketball techniques for youngsters.

And who better to help strengthen those techniques than the Galen Eagles Basketball Squad? It's all a part of the players performing their community service for their education while assisting these youths. We found out more.

Bernie Tarr - Technical Officer, Basketball
"This is a basketball camp put together by Minister Longsworth with the National's Sports Council - what we've done was taken the Galen Basketball team to come here a few days during the week and assist with the camp. Basically it really teaches the players, as their role models, not just basketball players and it gives them a chance to interact with the kids. They are having a good time, enjoying it and developing some relationships with some of the younger guys, learning some fundamentals of basketball."

Farron Lauriano - Ball Player, Galen Eagles
"I like working with the kids, I wish we had this when we were younger. Also, it's a chance to get our community service hours that we do at the Galen University due to the fact that we are scholarship players. We started from Monday of last week - we just come and share our knowledge with them and try to make them better players and give them the opportunity that we didn't have when we were younger."

Goran Gabourel - Camper
"I don't know I just really like basketball."

Monica Bodden
"So far, being a part of the camp - tell me your experience, how has it been?"

Goran Gabourel
"Really good - I liked it so far"

Monica Bodden
"What have you learned so far?"

Goran Gabourel
"How to dribble the ball and how to do defence and offence."

Monica Bodden
"You think you're going to enjoy the next two weeks? You met new friends?"

Goran Gabourel
"Yes I think so. Yes"

The camp wraps up next week.
