Dara Gets Institutional Backative
posted (March 28, 2014)
Very many times on this newscast, we've covered the grassroots philanthropy of Dar Robinson. His feeding programme feeds 40 - 50 school children per day, and he does it all out of his small home. It's his life's work, no one pays him to do it, and, generally, he only gets the thanks of the children he feeds. But Dara never asks for anything other than contributions to his very worthy cause, and the Social security Board came through nicely for him today with a donation of five thousand dollars' worth of kitchen appliances, and a commitment to give him 500 dollars monthly to buy groceries. They did this at his home in Belize City and we were there:..

Dara Robinson, Grassroots Philanthropist
"The donation is a big help because we end up with stove, a brand new refrigerator, microwave, cake mixer, crock pot, blender... If you cook every day those things get worn out. The last time I had this was when I won the Unsung Heroes I bought them. We are in 7 years of it and I am grateful."

Shawn Stuart, Administrator - Social Security
"Social Security has decided to contribute to this feeding program by donating $500 every month for the next year, the next 12 months and also by donating $5,000 towards the appliances which you have seen."

Dara Robinson, Grassroots Philanthropist
"$500 is like a jump for me because it's like you know that is coming and that will be a help. Basically some months you would find yourself maybe only meat you would need and that money could just go into only meats and thing. Sometime you find yourself running out of gas, seasonings and things and you have to jump. This kind of work you never know - I could be on the road and she would call me and say she something just done, call up a brethren and maybe borrow the money at the time and have them do it. With business and other people who donate and help, really help this program. This is a stressful thing on me especially if you don't have the kind support that you would really need for say that you could go on with your life - do what you do but make sure that this is happening, so I am more than grateful. It's donations like this that makes me feel more to do more."

Dara's monthly grocery bill for the feeding programme is about 1,350 dollars, so even with SSB's plug, he still has to raise 850 dollars monthly.
