Tonight we note the passing of former UDP Minister and Area Representative Israel Alpuche. The 71 year old died around 7:00 this morning at the Corozal community hospital, from complications due to diabetes.
Alpuche, affectionately known as Rally, served as Minister of Energy and Communication during the 1984 - 1989 Esquivel Administration when he was the representative for Corozal Bay.
Alpuche does have a place in history: he became elected Mayor of Corozal Town under a third party banner: the Corozal United Front Movement in the 1970's.
Recently, he told a UDP documentarian about the early history of that movement with the PDM:..
Israel Alpuche
"You see the problem was that we ran, but no success, so I get to gather my people here and I told them lets change the name probably that will help us. We decided to have it in Corozal. We had a bi-election and Mr. Andres Campos was successful. Then the Town Board election came and 7 of the United Democratic Party won. In that term I was elected Mayor."
Rally Alphuche dead at 71.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon, July 12 at the St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church in Corozal town.
