PM Says Petrocaribe Suit is An Opportunity To Attack PUP
posted (October 31, 2014)
Last night you heard the Prime Minister speak boldly about why he thinks the PUP's challenge to his government's Petrocaribe spending is going nowhere. But he says not only is he not bothered by the Supreme Court challenge, he actually welcomes it because it gives his government a chance to graphically remind the PUP about how they managed the programme during their term:..

Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"This is real dog-in-the-manger position that the PUP has taken. Remember that the initial program was by the PUP. Did they take it to the House? I see people coming up with how much they collected under that program - it certainly is in excess of 10 million dollars. We never knew of one project to which they could point to, to say this has been funded by Petrocaribe. For people with that kind of a track record to come now and to try to play spoiler...I understand the need for political opportunism, but I really think this is an anti-people move. It is not as though the opposition came up with this notion that it has to go to the House (and perhaps they couldn't come up with this since they never took it to the House.) It is our good friend Jules Vasquez who first asked me about that, you know, and you will recollect sir that while I said to you at the time 'well I am not sure that we can't argue that the...' - you know what, ultimately you are right. Let us not argue, I will take it to the House."

Jules Vasquez
"You now regret doing so?"

Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"Not at all sir, because I am telling you this is an opportunity for us to lambaste the PUP. They wouldn't like the way this will turn out you know."
