Police say that 37 year-old Aura Beatrice Moro, tried to smuggle over a kilo of weed onto Caye Caulker via one of the water taxis, and tonight she's in
police custody for it.
The seizure happened yesterday morning at around 9:30 when one of the boats for San Pedro Belize Express arrived. Police were conducting a routine
check on the boat, when their attention was drawn to Moro, a resident of Santa Elena Town. A thorough search of her bags led officers to discover 1.3
kilos – or 2.87 pounds – of marijuana in two black plastic bags and 10 grams of cocaine.
Any amount over 60 grams of marijuana and 1 gram of cocaine is considered to be drug trafficking, and so the officers charged her with two counts. It
is expected that she will be arraigned at the earliest convenience.
