Under the Making Tourism Benefit Communities Adjacent to Archaeological Sites project, first time craft vendors will now be able to sell their wares at
3 of the 9 archaeological sites in Belize.
These new sites include Nim Li Punit, Lubaantun, and Blue Creek, all in the Toledo District. The infrastructural developments necessary to place these
craft vendors was made possible through the European Union, which is funding the Belize Rural Development Program. The entire project is being
implemented by the Belize Tourism Board and NICH, and the finished structures were handed over.
Also, the program allowed for 250 feet of gravel trail to be built at Nim Li Punit. At Lubantun, a concrete and gravel stairway with safety rails was
also constructed. At all 3 sites, funding from the program allowed for warning and notice signs, benches, and rest areas.
All 3 craft markets were handed over by EU Head of Delegation to Belize, Ambassador Paola Amadei.
