Spreading The Message Of Islam in Belize
posted (January 28, 2015)

The "Islamic State" or "ISIS" – we've all heard of it on international news - but the reality of it remains remote in Belize.

While these issues do not directly affect Belize, for some, it does affect their perception of Muslims. And representatives of the AH-MADI-YYA Muslim community are here to change that. They held a media briefing today at the Radisson to bring what they say is the true and untainted face of Islam to light. Senior Vice President of the Muslim Community in Canada says this convention – which is the first of its kind in Belize – is only the beginning of a spiritual revolution.

Mubarak Nazir - Senior Vice President, Muslim Community in Canada

"we're trying to speak to the people here in Belize, it's a beautiful country. We're going to offer prayers for the development of this country, we want all religions to come together because we believe the source of all religions is from god. So we want to get together and speak about how to achieve peace of mind, how to become productive members of this country. How to become more law abiding, how to become good husbands, how to become good wife, good students. We do not claim that this one conference would change the entire concept, it's the beginning, it's a trigger and we want to inject this idea that the religion of Islam is a religion of peace and all the ISIS are doing has nothing to do with Islam. They have their own political agenda, they're trying to capture territories and Islam is a religion that is trying to capture territories, it captures the hearts. So we are in the business of capturing hearts of humanity through peace."

Evan Vernon - Belizean Panelist

"Belize being a predominantly Christian influence country in terms of religion. Belize also has a lot of problems and religion has helped in many ways and at the same time religion has contributed some negative things but believe that anything that can help is better than anything that is destroying.

There are about 50 members of the AHMADIYYA Muslim community in Belize.
