Man, Boy Injured In Random City Shooting
posted (February 16, 2015)
That was the weekend's only murder - but there was a terrifying public shooting spree on Sunday night in Belize City - which left two injured: a young boy and a middle aged man. It happened at around 7:00 on Faber's Road. 56 year old Charles Guy and 9 year old Davian Sanchez were buying at the corner Chinese Store when a gunman just opened fire on them - and the general area they were standing in. Fortunately they only received injuries to their legs. Police told the media today that it was a random shooting:..

Supt. Hilberto Romero, OC - CIB - Belize City
"Police visited Fabers Road area where a report was received that there had been a shooting and several extended shells were found. Police made checks at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they found two male persons; one with a gunshot wound to the leg and one with gunshot wound to the lower part of the right foot."

Jules Vasquez
"Do you all believe that it may be random?"

Supt. Hilberto Romero, OC - CIB - Belize City
"Again, we have not established the motive. Like I said that is the information that we have at this time, the person showed up across the street and just opened fire. The child and the other person was purchasing at the shop at they received those gunshot injuries. Again, we are looking at all angles, to establish who this person is that came and open fire at them."

Police responded right after the shooting and were able to detain a 16 year old driving a red car. We understand he is the prime suspect.

Both 9 year old Sanchez and 56 year old Guy remain hospitalized. They both received two gunshots to their legs. Guy underwent surgery this evening - and is stable. Sanchez's mother says he is in pain, but also stable.
