Judge: Chrisdale Laughed When He Robbed Two Girls
posted (March 12, 2015)
19 year-old Chrisdale Courtney is spending the first night of a 6-year sentence after he was found guilty in Magistrate's Court of robbing 2 young women in a snatch and grab which escalated to a chokehold of one of the victims.

The women, who are sisters, reported to police that on June 14, 2014, they were on Vernon Street, near to Berger Field. That's when Courtney rode up on bike and tried to rob them of their belongings. When the women resisted, Courtney then grabbed the older sister around the neck and choked her. Fearing for her life, she handed over money, and her cellular phone, but Courtney didn't release her, and using threats, he continued to choke the woman until her younger sister handed over her phone and the money she had on her.

When the case was called up Courtney changed his plea to guilty today and saved the court time to have to go through a lengthy trial. Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer sentenced him to serve 2 separate sentences of 6 years in prison. That's 12 years, but the sentences are to run concurrently, so, he will only have to serve 6 years in jail.

One of the girls mothers told the court that her daughter is so afraid she does not want to go out on the streets.

So while the accused begged the court for a fine the Senior Magistrate did not share his sentiments and told him that he took away the women peace of mind and sense of security when he robbed them and even laughed at them after he had robbed them.
