PM Says PUP Won’t Have Luck on 13th Senator Suit
posted (May 15, 2015)
And "no more" is also what he had to say about Senators. As we showed you last week, the leader of the opposition is taking the prime minister to court. He's asking the Supreme Court to compel the PM to enact the legislation, which has already been passed for the 13th Senator. But, speaking with the press yesterday the Prime Minister said that was already tried before at the Supreme Court, and failed:...

Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"There was a previous case, this is a rethread, and this is going over all ground and..."

Jules Vasquez
"But that case was for legitimate expectations."

Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"No, that wasn't for legitimate expectation at all. It was asking for the same sort of relief. The judge said if one of the grounds was legitimate expectation that could work. The judge said a number of things including, as I understand it, that it is not really the business of the court to say to the minister 'you must bring the law into force by a certain time'. The court admittedly can make a declaration if a court thinks that the minister is playing the fool. But as I understand, the court will not make any kind of enforcement order. So I believe that the application for an injunction is misconceiving."

Jules Vasquez
"If it goes before the elections, and let's say, they win and an order is issued from the court forcing you to implement the 13th senator within 30 days."

Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"I will appeal."
