Now these Great Wall ambulances were scheduled to be delivered just before the election – but shipping delays pushed that back to this week. So it
comes as a post election bonus, a sort of fresh start for Minister Pablo Marin's re-election and re-assumption of the cabinet portfolio.
Hon. Pablo Marin - Minister of Health
"I feel proud of myself. I feel proud of my staff that we have accomplished so much in the Ministry of Health. We have received grants from the
Japanese that's about 5 million dollars. We have received grants from the European Union. We have invested in clinics around the country. We have fixed
the labs in the country. We have fixed pharmacies in the country."
"In Corozal the operating theatre was removed from Corozal and taken only in the region of Orange Walk. I have opened an operating theatre in Corozal
and its working. In San Pedro, you had an 8 hour service in San Pedro; now I can boast I have a 24 hour service in San Pedro. Benque, we had an 8 hour
service; now we are implementing a 12 hour service in Benque and that we have done all over the country. We are looking now to do a hospital in San
Pedro which we needed. We need to do a hospital in PG; we definitely need that. And these things we have done through time, so how is it that they will
say that the Ministry of Health has not improved?"
Marin told us that that the ambulances are just a part of improving and revitalizing the Ministry, which has been overshadowed by countless misfortunes
and seriously bad publicity. Marin reflected on what has been done in the Ministry so far but also concedes that a lot more needs to be done.
