Will Police Keep Alleged Targets Safe?
posted (January 18, 2016)
So, while that's the backstory which ties both men to each other, police have accused Paumen of trying to to get Modiri killed.

He's out on bail, and so the press questioned whether the police will be keeping a close eye on him to ensure the safety of the persons he allegedly tried to get killed. Here's our conversation with the Commissioner of Police on the topic:

Reporter
"What kind of details you have on Bradley Paumen?"

Allen Whylie, Commissioner of Police
"We have none. He is I think he might be a Belizean-American I'm not too sure. But he was offered bail by the Courts. But once he is offered bail and he meets the condition of the bail then he is free to move around. I believe one of the conditions is that he is not to leave the country and he is also to report to the Police. We have to respect the conditions of the bail that was granted to him."

Reporter
"Do you believe that he is a flight risk?"

Allen Whylie, Commissioner of Police
"I don't think so. From my understanding he has considerable investments here and he has been here for many years, so I don't think that he is. The Court would have considered all those things I believe when they decided whether or not to grant him bail."

Daniel Ortiz
"Will you all provide security for the persons it is believed he intended to target, since there were a number of persons named and their safety might be at risk?"

Allen Whylie, Commissioner of Police
"I don't think so at this stage. If those persons believe that the threat continues then we can look at that. But those persons are aware of and I am certain that they have taken their own precautions. But at this stage we are not providing security to anybody. All I can say is that our records show that that gun was license to Mr. Pauman. I cannot say that there is any connection between that gun and where it was found and the charges that were proffered against him. You must understand that from time to time intelligence indicate guns as well as drugs in different locations and different teams respond to those things, so we recovered a number of firearms not only in Belize City, but also in other jurisdictions. It just show happens that one of those guns recovered was his gun."

At his bail hearing last week Friday, the prosecution indicated to the judge that police intend at some point to bring another criminal charge against him.
