An illegal immigrant detainee escaped from the custody of Benque Viejo Police, and tonight the department is reporting that negligence by an on-duty
allowed him to give police the slip.
At around 11 yesterday morning, officers went to the cell block area to take food for prisoner, 36 year-old Denis Alberto Nunez Gamez, a resident of
Sonaguera Colon, Honduras. That's when they discovered that he had escaped from cell #3. They don't know exactly how he managed it, but they discovered
that the padlock on the door was unlocked.
The most likely explanation was the officer on duty left it unlocked, and so, that officer will be facing an internal investigation. Police are
prepared to take disciplinary action against this officer for neglect of duty.
Police have since tried to locate Nunez Gamez, but, they've not been able find so far. He was being held pending immigration charges for illegal entry.
