Lozano Blames 7News For House Shot Up
posted (April 19, 2016)
Last night, we told you about gunmen who shot up the Lozano home on Marage Road in Ladyville. That happened in the early morning hours of Saturday, and the family worried that the assailants might return for another attempt, since no one was injured during the weekend.

Today, Cynthia Lozano sat down with 7News and she described what happened that night after she had only just gone to bed:

Cynthia Lozano, Gunmen shot at her home
"I got home at ten to two that Sunday morning. I went to bed about 2:45-2:50 thereabout, and was awaken by loud kicks at my door. Right after the kicks, my husband got up to find out what the noise was about. Immediately we heard three gun shots, he came out the door and I followed behind. I looked for my kids and saw they were okay. By that time they had knocked all the lights off. I called my son who wasn't at home, because my other boy thought he came home and it was him outside. He said 'mom I'm still in Cayo'. I then called the police, they asked me a few questions, I told them 'I'm not opening my door until you guys get here', of which they did. What transpired there, I really and truly don't know, like I told you, I was awaken from my sleep. I honestly believe they would have executed the job that they came to do and everyone in my home would have been dead, because you cannot leave someone to tell the tale. That was my worst fear that night."

"Is it a worry of yours that the people who shot up your house this weekend will try to come back a second time?"

Cynthia Lozano, Gunmen shot at her home
"I believe so, I wouldn't want to believe so, but I want to believe that they will make a second attempt. I am hoping that they would see we had nothing to do with that, we know nothing about it and that's what I am mad about."

So, why would anyone want to hurt her or her family? Well, Lozano says that there is a misunderstanding in the village. That's because the murders of Merkel Pitts and Rene Chavarria happened a few weeks ago in the same vicinity of the Lozano family home. 2 weeks ago, we aired an interview on this newscast in which a young man claimed to know the identity of the gunman who killed Chavarria. He asked us to conceal his identity, and in so doing, we did not reveal his face, his name, and we altered the audio of his voice to make it unrecognizable.

Well, the Lozano family tells us that the day after the interview aired on 7News, Ladyville residents began contacting her and her sons believing that it was one of them who knows who these gunmen are. She told us that before this weekend shooting incident, one of her sons received a death threat, but they did not take it too seriously since they are certain that they did not grant that interview.

Well, today, 3 days after the shooting, Lozano told us that the very real danger has caused her to have to publicly state that the eyewitness did not come from one of her sons. Here's how she stated clearly that her children know nothing about the incident, and that they were not the ones who spoke with us:

Cynthia Lozano, Gunmen shot at her home
"I honestly believe, all this transpired because of an interview that the media took from a young man a couple of weeks before. He stated that on the night of Chavarria's death, the gun man did not pursue the guys that ran into his yard. His yard, meaning my yard, because that's where all the bullets were passing that night. It's not his property, no one took any information from any one of us. My son did not give any interview, we knew nothing about it. So I believe that's what transpired that night. The people thought that it was someone from that yard talking and I believe that's why they came to that house that night. Everyone heard that interview including someone from the department that sent me a text message at 7:01 that morning, of which I still have that text in my phone. I didn't really understand his text so I called him. he was explaining what he heard on the news and he was hoping that it wasn't someone setting up my sons, because the way the person gave the interview, that they could have positively identified who was the gun man that night and that everyone ran into that yard and the gun man didn't pursue them because the gun man was friends with who was in that yard. Nothing is further from the truth, we gave no interview, absolutely none. This is the first interview I am giving, I didn't even give one yesterday, and we know nothing. We didn't give an interview to the police, none came to us, and we didn't give an interview to the media. The young man that gave that interview was a false interview because he wasn't even there that night. He is just putting people's life in danger."

We note for clarity that indeed that eyewitness was not any of Lozano's sons.
