City Shooting Leads To Intervention
posted (August 12, 2016)
Police from Precinct 1 also had to respond to another shooting last night just before 10:00. A 17 year-old minor and his relative were hanging out in front of their home on Neal Penn Road when a gunman opened fire on them from the darkness.

It was late at night, so there were no eyewitnesses, and there's no evidence at this time to charge anyone. But, police say that they know who the shooter is, and what his motive was. They told us that they will make an intervention between the two parties to try to squash the feud before it escalates further:

Sgt. Isai Sanchez - OC, CIB Precinct 1
"Last night at 9:40pm, Cameron Moreira, a 17 year old Belizean student who will now be commencing his 4th form education at Maud Williams, was standing in front of his premises on Neal Penn Road when he was ambushed by a gunman who fired 2 gunshots. Unfortunately, he was hit on his left leg causing a minor injury. He was taken to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was treated and discharged shortly after. Cameron Moreira is no associate of any criminal activity, he's a student. Motive is unknown, I can definitely say that it was a mistaken person who was shot at and unfortunately Cameron was the victim."

ACP Chester Williams - OC, Eastern Division South
"From what we are gathering, we have a basic idea who the shooter is and the investigation so far is revealing that it is a woman issue. Again, it's a situation that we will continue to monitor because the young man who was shot last night was not the intended target so we still need to look at brining in the person who was the intended target. as much as we do not have enough to arrest and charge the suspected gunman, we want to bring him in as well and see how we can intervene between them to prevent any further occurrence of such type of incidence in that area."

"Sir Can you state if the intended target is of any relation to the victim?"

ACP Chester Williams - OC, Eastern Division South
"Yes and he lives at the same house where the incident took place. This is one of the reasons why we always stress and discourage people from hanging out at the street corners late at night because that's the opportunity that the gunmen would normally take to go and eliminate their rivalry. So we continue to stress on that and we discourage people from hanging out on street corners."

Police say that the victim, Cameron Moreira has been treated and released.
