And while we mostly talk about the damage Hurricane Earl did to residences, but what about businesses which lost phone and internet service? Chair of the Executive Committee Anwar Barrow told us today that they are working to restore those services as quickly as possible.
Anwar Barrow - Chair, Executive Committee, BTL
"In terms of our performance throughout the hurricane most of our network assets are above ground and were resilient during the hurricane. However, we did have a lot of individual connections that went down with copper lines into people's homes that have been water logged or that have been destroyed. We had several thousand around 4 thousand faults in our system after the hurricane on a day to day basis and we have been working to resolve those. We prioritize them first because certain customers who are doing business over those lines, employing people, we try to give priority to and then those who maybe just be using their home phone or just be using internet at their home have some alternative source come a little later. So, we have been working quite diligently. We have more than double the amount of crews that we have on the ground that we have working. we have done that by taking resources from other areas as well as hiring contractors to help us with it, but it's a very tedious and technical job to move from home to home and you can imagine BTL has 232 thousand different subscriptions to its services such as home phone, mobile internet so and so forth and so when we have 3-4 thousand customers down with faults it certainly takes a little while to get through."
Barrow says that they are still on track with the 4G LTE service, and plan to roll out that service before the end of this year.
