And one representative who's hell bent on forcing the government to be accountable is PUP Cayo South Representative Julius Espat. He also made his integrity filing today and he told the media that even if it's only symbolic, the gesture is important:...
Hon. Julius Espat
"We have what it takes to show the Belizean people that we are not afraid to be held accountable for what we are and it's not that we are inventing the wheel, it is in the laws of Belize. Every elected public official should declare their assets. You know why? Because if you come in with $10, we want know how much you come out with minus how much salary you get. It's a basic formula. We just want to have a little idea. We want to know if the cheese was properly spent or not."

"Sir on that same note how important is it or how impactful is this move by the PUP especially in light of the protest here by the teachers. How important or impactful is it to present this image or idea of transparency, in terms of the integrity commission?"
Hon. Julius Espat
"In reality politics from here onward is not based on what politicians do or what they say. Politics will be based on what the people say. The people want transparency, the people want accountability and so all politicians on both sides have to abide by the voice of the people, because that is what we are here to do. We are here to serve. We are representatives of our people and if we are not force, if you want to put it that way, to follow the law, then how can we expect to follow the law when we are in government and that is essence of the problem. What we are doing here yes it's symbolic, it's important for us, but it's important for the people to understand that your leaders believe in what you are saying and your leaders are realizing that the world is changing and we can't be hiding and doing things behind closed doors."
