It made major news in May of 2013 when Primary School teacher Eddie Pinelo was arrested and charged with sexual abuse against one of a male student at a San Ignacio school. Well tonight, he's on day 2 of freedom from that allegation after he was acquitted in the Belmopan Supreme Court of the charge of unnatural crime.
He was accused by the 14 year-old boy who said he visited Pinelo's Bullet Tree Home. He told police that while at the teacher's house, they drank Caribbean rum and coke, and after about 3 cups, he felt drunk. He said that he couldn't remember that he was taken to bed, but he alleged that Pinelo removed his clothes and had sexual intercourse with him.
After 3 year and a half years, Pinelo finally got his day in court before Justice Antoinette Moore, and the prosecution called 6 witness to testify against him. He was represented by attorney Leeroy Banner.
After hearing all the evidence, and after their deliberations, a jury of 4 men and 5 women found Pinelo not guilty. With that, Pinelo was allowed to leave court a free man yesterday evening.
