Two weeks ago we told you about murder rates in the Caribbean and Central America. In the Caribbean, St. Kitts-Nevis actually has the highest murder rate per one hundred thousand at 56. Their murder count went up by over 50%. Jamaica is second at 47 per hundred thousand, then Belize is third at 37.1.
But what about a number known as the "the clearance rate"? That refers to the number of arrests compared to the number of murders. Well, according to the Trinidad Express Newspaper, Antigua has a high clearance rate, with 8 murders, and six suspects arrested making for a clearance rate of 75%. Guyana is also high on the list, at 64% with 140 murders, and 90 suspects arrested. Jamaica is at 57%, with 771 arrests for 1350 murders - that's a rate of 57%. Belize is at only 37%, with 51 arrests for 138 murders - which is on the low side. Trinidad, however is much lower than Belize with just 71 murder arrests for their 462 murders, a clearance rate of just over 15%.
