Was Woman Set In Vehicle To Burn?

So, while Corozal police continue to investigate that double murder that's making international headlines in Canada and the US, they aren't sure what the make of the vehicle which was completely destroyed by fire this morning.The vehicle, a Kia SUV, was found at mile 21 on the George Price Highway, near the Youth Hostel. Inside it, the cops found the charred remains of an adult, but at this time, the authorities can't say whether it's a man or a woman.

The vehicle is registered to a female from Belmopan, who has ties to San Ignacio, and at this time, she hasn't been located. Police sources tell us that investigators are trying to locate the owner who did not show up to work today.

The Deputy Officer Commanding the Rural Eastern Division did hold a press briefing this afternoon to explain that they came upon the vehicle and the burnt remains after they set chase. According to Assistant Superintendent Cocom, the vehicle fled a checkpoint:

"About 2:30am on today's date May 2nd, 2017, Hattieville police were conducting a vehicle checkpoint in front of the Hattieville Police Station on the George Price Highway when a dark in color Kia Sportage SUV diverted the checkpoint. The vehicle was coming from the direction of Belmopan to Belize City and upon seeing the checkpoint it diverted and returned to the direction of Belmopan."

"As a result the Hattieville police mobile set chase. However, they didn't encounter the vehicle. Shortly after Hattiville police personnel discovered a vehicle engulfed in flames at mile 21 in front of the Hostel. After the fire was extinguished, police observed what appeared to be the charred human remains between the front and the rear passenger seat of the vehicle. The scene was processed, the charred remains of Jane/John Doe awaits analysis."

"Have police been able to positively ID who owns this vehicle that has been burnt up?"

"Yes, we have already identified the vehicle. However, we cannot divulge that information yet."

"At the scene of the incident, was it determined whether or not the vehicle went up in flames as a result of a collision or was there any foul play suspected? What are the circumstances on the ground?"

"Presently I cannot divulge that information as well. We have our hypothesis. However, we are still investigating."

"The police who were at that checkpoint, would they be able to identify the individual suspects once they are found or...?"

"From the information we got from the police at the scene, the vehicle was fully tinted."
