posted (May 2, 2017)
And later that Sunday evening around 5:00, 16 year old Belize City resident Joseph Vacarro drowned near the Hammock Bridge in Roaring Creek. Vacarro was also with his family at the river. His family says that he was a great swimmer and they are not sure what happened. They say the river wasn't that deep either. We spoke to two family friends who watched him grow up down Rhaburn Alley in Belize City. Here is what they had to say.

Neighbor
"He kept to himself."

Courtney Weatherburne
"Could you say he was very quiet?"

Neighbor
"He was a quiet young man."

Neighbor
"When I came to live over there, he was a little boy. Now, he still lives in the neighborhood and he grew up through this alley and he was a nice guy. He went to Edward P. Yorke.

"He would definitely be missed in this alley, this community. Everybody heart goes out for him, because it's so sad how it happened. Nobody didn't expected it."

Courtney Weatherburne
"Did you maybe saw him when he went out on Sunday to go swim?"

Neighbor
"No, I didn't saw him, because we didn't know they went to Belmopan."

Vacarro was in 4th form at Edward P. York. He was studying Business. He would have graduated next month. His post mortem is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
