Another big event that the Belize City Council is preparing for is 7th Annual Caribbean Urban Forum, win which Mayor Darrell Bradley and his fellow councillors will be hosting local government leaders from across the Caribbean, and other parts of the world.

It's the second time that the Belize Planners Association have had the opportunity to host the event, and last week Friday, Mayor Bradley told us about the event and the prestige of holding it in Belize:

Darrell Bradley, Mayor - Belize City
"Belize City will be hosting the 7th annual Caribbean urban forum on the 17th, 18th, and 19th of May. This is a major regional conference of land use managers and urban planners. This has been held 6 years previously. It has been held in various Caribbean countries and we're very pleased to say that this year the Belize Planners Association together with the Belize City Council is hosting the 2nd Caribbean urban forum. The forum will feature a series of academic presentations. It will also feature an urban expo which will highlight some of the challenges to urban planning and building resiliency in Belize City. We're going to focus on climate change and mitigation strategies. Another highlight of the Caribbean urban forum is also what we called the mayor's forum. We will have 30 mayors from Central America and the Caribbean who will be participating in this mayor's forum. We also have representatives from over 20 countries from the Caribbean region, from Central America and from beyond. In the Mayor's forum which will be held on the 18th of May from 6pm to 9pm at the Bliss Institute, is going to have presentations from various regional mayors on best practices and we're going to have a conversation with members of the public on the role of local government in achieving the sustainable development goals. We believe that local government plays a very significant role in providing quality and effective services to members of the public that improves quality of life and that local government can be a very instrumental actor in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal."
