Worst Fears For Missing Pamela Lino After Burnt Kia Found
posted (May 3, 2017)

Last night, we told you about the charred human remains that police found inside a burnt up vehicle at mile 21 on the George Price Highway. Well, police are no closer to identifying the victim, and tonight, there are growing concerns that the burnt victim is actually, the owner of the vehicle, Belmopan resident Pamela Lino.

She’s a teacher from the Belmopan Baptist High School, who hasn’t reported to work for 2 days now. More worrisome than that is that no one has been able to get in touch with her, despite the best efforts from her co-workers, friends, and police.

As we reported, at around 2:30 a.m. yesterday, Hattieville police spotted her white Kia Sportage heading toward their checkpoint, westbound for Belmopan. As soon as the driver saw the police, he or she turned the vehicle around and headed back toward Belmopan.

Police set chase, but the driver evaded them. Shortly after that, police found the vehicle on fire in front of the Hostel compound at the Rockville junction. The fire was put out, and the cops found unidentifiable human remains inside the vehicle.

So, the fact the she is missing, that her vehicle is burnt, with unidentified human remains inside have led to grave concern that she may be the victim.

Today, we spoke with her immediate boss, the Principal of the Belmopan Baptist High School. We asked him about the way that the students and her fellow teachers are handling this time of worry and uncertainty. Here’s what he told us:

Daniel Ortiz
"Has she shown up for work since the end of the long weekend?"

Jerry Roberts - Principal, Belmopan Baptist High School
"To the best of my knowledge when we called Monday, she did not answer her cell phone. We had a staff workshop on Monday and she was not at the staff workshop."

Reporter
"When was the last time she was seen?"

Jerry Roberts
"She was on campus on Thursday of last."

Reporter
"Did she seem odd, did she seem different, do you know?"

Jerry Roberts
"Not to my knowledge."

Daniel Ortiz
"Sir just making sure, she hasn't shown up for today either right?"

Jerry Roberts
"No as far as I know she's not at school."

Reporter
"Is it a strange thing that she misses classes, she misses workshops?"

Jerry Roberts
"No that is not like her, she's normally at school."

Daniel Ortiz
"Sir is there a concern among the staff and maybe the students that something is terribly amiss, that she has missed two days so far and that she is in trouble in some kind of way?"

Jerry Roberts
"We find the incident of her being absent to be a bit strange. Again we are concerned as we are very pray-ful for her safety but it is a point of concern. Again there are lots of rumours that are floating around; nothing has been confirmed however we continue to believe the best for her safety and her return."

Reporter
"What does she teach at the school?"

Jerry Roberts
"She teaches Information Technology to first and second form."

Reporter
"So she has her own home room?"

Jerry Roberts
"And she's also a homeroom teacher."

Reporter
"So that classroom is without a homeroom at the moment?"

Jerry Roberts
"She shared the homeroom with another teacher."

Reporter
"Sir what can you tell us about her professional career as a teacher here at this school?"

Jerry Roberts
"She was very dedicated, very hard working, someone that was very caring. She did her best to qualify herself to be able to meet the standards of her subject. As a matter of fact we congratulated her recently in accomplishing a tremendous milestone; she recently finished a master’s degree in Instructional Technology and so tremendous asset and tremendous member to our team."

Reporter
"Do you know anything of her personal life, trouble in her personal life?"

Jerry Roberts
"Again I cannot recall; I try to stay out of the personal life of my teachers."

Reporter
"Sir how is the school addressing her absence. As you said rumours are out there, I believe some of the students may have heard rumours. How are you addressing that issue with the student body?"

Jerry Roberts
"The way we are addressing this issue with the student body is that we've gotten fortification from the ministry of education. We were very fortunate that our center manager Ms. Gonzales was with us this morning along with members of the counselling association and so we've been providing counselling to our students as well to our teachers."

As you heard, the principal spoke glowingly about her contribution and her strong commitment to excellence at the school. Back in November of 2012, we met her for ourselves, when that very same commitment to the school prompted her to speak out against the management of the Belmopan Baptist High School during the tumultuous transition to a new principal. Here’s what she told us back then:

Pamela Lino - teacher
"Two weeks prior to the opening of classes I was instructed that I am going to be teaching integrated science. I have been hired here since 2006 teaching principles of business and OA. Integrated science is new to me, far fetch from my field of expertise. In all of my correspondence given to them I request justification for that and to date I got none. Finally they decided to send me a letter with no justification at all telling me that I will now be teaching literature and focus reading to first form."

Currently, Lino teaches Information Technology to 150 of the students at the High School, almost half of the student population.  She is the mother of one adult daughter - who resides in the US and is headed home to Belize.  ENDS…Father served With NIP In Death of Daughter

In Orange Walk, the driver of the Coke Truck that ran over three year old Lindsey Alina Babb has been served with a notice of intended prosecution, but so has her father. He was driving the motor scooter that got hit which caused the child to tumble to the ground.  That’s when the driver of the turning delivery truck didn't see the child on the street and ran her over.   It is unclear whether the child had on a helmet.  The accident happened on Liberty Street at 8:30 yesterday morning - which is the heart of the town's rush hour.  The Town Council has pledged to put a speed bump in the heavily trafficked area and to illegalise u-turns at that junction.
