Courtenay Looking Forward To Penner
posted (May 4, 2017)
While we had the opportunity today, we also asked Courtenay for a comment on the fact that former UDP Minister Elvin Penner has been called to testify in the Senate Hearings on Immigration.

Since the Citizen Kim Passport Scandal broke in September 2013, all fingers have pointed at Penner, and for his involvement, he was forced to resign from Cabinet. He was then slowly pushed out by his party. He was then criminally charged by COLA for the Wong Hong Kim passport, but that case failed due to lack of evidence.

It's been over 3 and a half years, and Penner has remained silent the entire time, but next Wednesday, it is anticipated that he will break that silence for the first time and explain himself publicly.

That's perfectly fine for PUP Senator Courtenay, who told us that he has a lot of explaining to do:

Eamon Courtenay, PUP Senator
"I understand that for quite some time he has volunteer to persons that he wants to come before the senate committee and that he is quite anxious to come and tell his side of the story. I think Mr. Penner is going to be a very important witness. He is not only going to be called upon to explain his role in the Wonhong Kim matter, but his role, 1) as an area representative. His role as a minister with responsibility for immigration. His role with the carting away of boxes. The illegal granting of nationality to many persons who still remain on the register. We have pictures of him actually doing it, along with his cohorts. So it seems to me that Mr. Penner will be there for quite a while. He has a lot of explain and I am happy to hear that he is coming with a full desire to speak frankly, openly and truthfully. So that we can really get to the bottom of this. So that we can find out how much money Wonhong Kim paid. We can find out the true role of people like Mr. Eric Chang in this. Mr. Penner will have a lot to say, so as the chairman of the committee said, under the pain of perjury he will have many questions to answer and I hope he is ready."

We'll be there next Wednesday, and we'll show you what he has to say, if he does show up.
