Exactly 1 year ago in May, Akeem Thimbrel and his cousin Shawn Lopez were shot and killed in Camalote. Their family and friends are very bitter about their loss but more so because justice has not been served as yet - no one has been charged . We caught up with Thimbrel's father in Belmopan yesterday and he expressed his concerns with how police are handling this case.

"The most difficult part is seeing my wife and children suffering on a daily basis wanting to hear answers from the police department and that is not forthcoming. We are all the time looking at the - Facebook is like now the way forward for people getting information and so we keep on looking at that to see if something is going to surface, but nothing has surfaced."
"We are getting information now that it's not one gun that was used in that crime, its 2 guns; one of them is a license gun and the other one is a gun that they've traced back to the authorities. Now we are saying now why haven't you said this to us before and who actually that gun was assigned to on that particular day. Because those things can easily be traced back. The ballistic report has come back from the forensic lab. We understand that the information is there already. So how come these things are not being said to us. So that makes it even more frustrating not to be able to get those answers and the people from within the system they are telling people that an arrest should have been made a long time ago. So now with those added things in the equation now, it's more frustrating for us. In the back of our minds we feel as though there are some very serious cover up with this thing."
Police told us that the DPP has the file and that they are waiting for her directives. But based on Thimbrel's information, the police are dragging their feet in providing the DPP with some details which she needs to move on with this case. The DPP no longer replies to queries from this media house.
