The ATM Caves, properly known as Actun Tunichil Muknal in Teakettle Village are among the most prized Mayan tours in Belize. It takes visitors through a network of caves where human remains from sacrificial offerings centuries ago have been preserved. The caves get a lot of premium tourist traffic, and that requires a fair amount of technical and logistics support. And now NICH has set up a Rangers Facility to accommodate that. I found out more when I visited today:
The Institute of archaeology built the building at a cost of 62 thousand dollars. They plan on building more ranger bases at three other sites by December, including Barton Creek, Santa Rita, and Cerros.
