posted (June 5, 2017)
We know that there are many tertiary level institutions in Belize and you can get a degree in anything from graphic design to nursing, to physics and math. But what about music? That's usually study you take up on your own if you want to be a professional musician as an adult. But now, SJC junior college is changing all that with the first associates degree program for music. It's being done in conjunction with their sister institution, the Loyola University in New Orleans. That well established University's college of music and fine arts teamed up for a new building dedicated to the program. IT was opened on Saturday:

Alobi Young who is getting his master's degree at Loyola in Music, will lead the new program. Loyola will also send lecturers and materials to Belize to help build the program. Future scholarships will also be offered to Loyola for students graduating form this program so they can come back and teach.
