For the past two days we've been telling you about all those fuel tankers coming overland from Guatemala with fuel. Well, one of them was involved in a traffic accident this morning in Cotton Tree village. It happened right in front of the village school and it could have been serious because of the volatile cargo - but thankfully it was not.
At mile 44 on the George Price Highway a towhead rear ended one of the tankers. It was not a high speed collision, but the two head still got badly mashed up and had to be removed with a front end loader.
It happened right at the highway's rush hour around 7:30 AM - and traffic had to be diverted through a back road in Cotton Tree. The Fire Department had the highway closed off while the vehicles were removed.
Traffic, including a queue of tankers was backed up for miles on both sides.
