Barrow Proudly Proclaims Victory
posted (March 8, 2018)

So with control of those 5 towns and the Capital City, the UDP leader today proudly proclaimed victory at a press conference where he tried, at least, to look past the major upset in the city.  Here's how he put it at a press conference populated by party supporters:…

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow - Prime Minister of Belize
"Thank you to the Belizean nation, thank you to the municipalities for allowing the UDP to celebrate yet another big victory. The UDP has won 83 percent of all municipal seats in the period between 2006 and 2018. Our accomplishment is unprecedented in the post-Independence era of Belize. When you consider the relentless assault in particular of the media they have bombarded us, they have lambasted us without cease, without let to a cease. When you consider how the way they told it the odds were completely stacked against us that we could have produced this performance where in areas we actually increased our margins some places. I think it speaks volumes to the longevity of the UDP and to the job of work we have been doing especially in the municipalities. Notwithstanding the difficulties we have encountered, the blows we have withstood, some of these blows to some extent self-inflicted we are not just encouraged we are fired up that in the face of those sorts of odds in the context of that kind of renew the UDP has done so wonderfully well in yesterday's elections. The UDP is so confident of its record of service during these last 10 years, is so absolutely certain that it will continue in the time that's left until the next general elections to consolidate and expand on that record of service. We are so positive about all this that we feel completely convinced that we can and will win a 4th general election."
