We've already given you the broad outline of yesterday's election: the PUP went from controlling just one town with 5 councillor candidates, to controlling two towns and the big city, with 25 seats.  The UDP went from controlling 6 towns and two cities, to controlling 5 towns and one small city with a total of 41 seats.  

Overall, it was a mixed bag - with both sides able to claim decisive wins.  But, nowhere was it more decisive for the UDP than in the west - which the red swept with three decisive victories.  

Looking only at the margins for mayoral victories,  we start off in Belmopan, where UDP Mayor Khalid Belisle beat PUP's Tanya Santos by 943 votes. Belisle got 3,298 votes and Santos got 2,355. 

Moving on to Cayo, UDP Mayor Earl Trapp garnered an impressive win – he got 4,645 votes while PUP's Marconi Matus got 2,646 votes – so Trapp won by almost 2,000 votes. 

And lastly in Benque, UDP Marconi Sosa got 2,091 votes and his PUP opponent Cristian Castellanos got 1,056. The UDP won by a bit over 1,000 votes there. 

So that's a broad outline of the margins  – but what was it really like out West on the ground? Well as you saw in our "Up fi grabs" live coverage, our Courtney Weatherburne and cameraman Codie Noralez were on the spot; thy have a recap of the highs and lows out west.

It might seem like just another calm Wednesday in the City of Belmopan, but it was election day and it started off relaxed – which is quite the norm in Belmopan. A few PUP supporters dutifully stood by their mayoral and councilor candidates – others ferried the voters into the polling area.

But the UDP tore through the early morning quiet as a throng of supporters chanted and cheered their way to the Compre School gate.

They all went en masse to their polling stations.

But the PUP team stood their ground and remained optimistic.

"That is an intimidation tactic of theirs and at the end of the day it is the total amount of voters not any single bunch if voters who come out and our people are out there."

That was pretty much the main highlight in Belmopan, While in Cayo ... Things flared up quickly in front of the Santa Elena R.C School as PUP and UDP supporters clashed and GSU officers were standing by ready – nothing new for this municipality where for the residents, politics is in their blood.

"You know Santa Elena is always like this and you have people like Alberto August and the son who was telling me to go back to Melchor. They insulted me I didn't pay them any mind, my supporters hold me and I told them please don't hold me because they are going to hit me."

"I throw some words this is politics in Cayo."

And politics in Benque - at least in the afternoon - was very laid back – Except for a well- received visit from PM Barrow. But in the end, after polls closed back in Cayo, all the energy was concentrated at the Center for employment Training. The UDP's lit up the night .

The PUP's also drew some attention from the crowd and police with their motorbike halftime show.

But after UDP's Earl Trapp and his team were declared winners – the night was theirs.
