Chebat Blame Turnout For Loss
posted (March 8, 2018)

So the PUP simply couldn't break their losing streak in the west and one factor that the PUP believes led to this dismal outcome was the voter turnout- it was very poor. PUP Standard Bearer Michel Chebat expressed his disappointment with the results. We caught him as he exited the Center for Employment Training last night.

Michel Chebat - PUP Standard Bearer
"Clearly this is not the result we were expecting, the team was out there, we worked very hard, obviously the people, the voters are disenchanted and they did not come out to vote, a low voter turn-out is always in favor of the incumbent and in San Ignacio and the Cayo district here we had about 52% total so we knew earlier on that it would have been against us."

And while Chebat points to turnout - truth is, it was 57% in this election and 58% the last time around.
