16 Year Old Punched Out And Run Over
posted (March 13, 2018)
Tonight, the family of Josue Tut Cabrera, a 16 year-old resident of the Belize Corozal Road, in Orange Walk, continues to worry about his well-being after he was run over by a sugar cane truck.

As this video shows, over the weekend, he was walking near his house, which is located on the outskirts of Orange Walk Town, on the way to Corozal. The surveillance footage captures the moment when he was attacked by a man, who punched him in the face, while running away.

That man knocked him out, and he was pursued by another male. All this while Tut was left sprawled out in the middle of the highway.

Less than a minute later, you can see him groggily trying to sit up, and he reacted just in time to try and roll away from the truck's wheels, which would have cleanly run him over.

But, that was not enough, and his sister told us via telephone this evening, that he suffered major injuries due to that truck.

She spoke to our colleagues from CTV 3 News, and shared a bit more details:

Voice of: Tanya Cabrera, Sister of Victim
"When they punched down my little brother, he fell then the other one chased him. It looked like he tried to stop the truck but my brother was already sitting down. When he was sitting down the cane truck still passed on top of him."

Reporter
"This person that hit your brother that showed in the video, did the other witness knew who he is? Were they together?"

Voice of: Tanya Cabrera, Sister of Victim
"No they don't know the person, that's what we're trying to see. We're trying to look for the person to see who it is."

Reporter
"What's his condition at this present point in time?"

Voice of: Tanya Cabrera, Sister of Victim
"He's recovering. His two lungs; one he doesn't have and the other one has blood. Five of his ribs were broken and a piece of his liver. Yesterday they did a surgery and right now he's out. He's a bit alright but he's still in a condition whereby we don't know what will happen as yet."

Reporter
"Is he critical as this point in time or is he already stable?"

Voice of: Tanya Cabrera, Sister of Victim
"He's kind of stable."

His family is hoping that he will be able to recover. He went through major surgery last night.

They are also concerned that the cops haven't brought any charges against the driver of the truck. His sister tells us that the cops know who the driver is, and he was detained briefly. As to the young man who knocked him out on the road, his sister tells us that they don't yet know who he is.
