KHMH: A Dozen Days Of Sick Leave For Roof
posted (March 15, 2018)

Caution tape covers the doors to the specialist clinics at the KHMH - and it’s the same throughout a large portion of the hospital -which - we are told - is operating at about 33% after a significant structural fault was found in the roof.

A release from the KHMH says that it is functioning in “Emergency Mode” and key areas have had to be shut down, namely Radiology, the Operating Theaters, Central Sterilization, clinics and other administrative functions.

These measures were enacted yesterday when debris fell from one area of the ceiling in the radiology unit.  Multiple engineers were called in and they’ve agreed that they have to immediately reinforcement a section of the hospital’s roof.  Work is already underway.

So what does “emergency mode” mean for the patients who visit the country’s largest hospital?  And for how long? Well, they’ve cancelled all clinics, elective services and cut back on visiting hours to lessen traffic through the facility.  This will probably last until until Monday March 26th 2018 -  about 12 days.

The hospital building is 25 years old - and the damage is believed to be isolated.
